Climbing Pikes Peak International.

Whilst having a scout around on Vimeo for more great footage I stumbled across this awesome bit of work by a Will Roegge.

Now I'm a huge fan of Porsches, I've always said that my ultimate car would be a GT3, and I stand by that :) So already with the title the video got my attention...

Seriously this is some awesome editing to achieve this finished result, the audio mixing is perfect and when I was watching the video I really did feel like I was following this GT3 on the way up the mountain to achieve its record time! Very very cool!

Some awesome camera work, and some of the interior camera footage really shows how scary a hill climb must be to undertake, those incline angles look insane!

Enjoy the video!

The USA approach to drifting videos...

I love drifting videos, but it can't just be the raw footage, it has to be well produced and edited in some way to keep me interested throughout :D I'm sure I'm not asking for much, and I'm certain I'm not the only one.

So I went sifting through vimeo to find some examples of American produced Drifting videos, and I found this gem!

DRIFT GIVES YOU WINGS - a Clashproduction Movie. from Clashproduction on Vimeo.

I like the build up to the video, and the way it kicks in after the intro. Nicely put together!

So yeah the American approach to drifting is so different to ours, but at the same time I like it!

So until I find some more examples of great videos, that is all :)

Just over a year ago... it was JAE 2009!

I know, I know... I should be talking about this years JAE by now, I mean it has been 2 weeks....

My pictures from this year are already up on my flickr & on my website, so feel free to look them up, will blog them properly at some point soon :D

For now though I want to talk about last years show, so here we go... the Japanese Automobile Extravaganza (JAE for short), is a Japanese car show held over a weekend, and takes place once a year.

It is a static show, and is considered by most clubs to be a good end to the active show season by chilling out in a field, having a few drinks and firing up the BBQs.

In fact here is the SXOC car BBQ!

Clubs from all over the Uk come to JAE and it's a great place to catch up with old friends and put faces to names from club forums.

As per usual beer has a huge part to play in JAE :)

Still find this quite impressive, especially seeing as that spoiler has a tilt to it... some real engineers out there!

One of the things I love about JAE is that its so chilled out, you often catch people either working on their cars or even tinkering with them via a laptop...

Another thing I love about the show is that as its over the weekend, you can get some fantastic sun set/evening shots of various cars too!

This year the event took place at Wickstead Park in Kettering, from the 11th of September until the 13th.
The large venue had plenty of facilities to cater for the show, and its participants.

It was the first year spent at the new venue of Wickstead Park, and it seemed to go quite well! Most UK clubs made an appearance, and there were some quality cars there!

At the time I was so pleased with the pictures I got from the wknd, the feedback was awesome from the various car clubs, so anyway displayed throughout this blog post are some of my favourite shots from last years JAE.

I noticed at last years show that a lot of cars had mascots, or funny stickers and so on, so I went around getting some shots of my favourite ones!

I thought this next one was pretty unlucky...

Back then I was still shooting and post processing the pics to look very desaturated, almost colorless in some photos, I was really liking that look and it seemed to be going down well among the cars owners.

Even found a crazy horn blasters setup :S scarily loud!!!

A few other favourites of mine, mostly detailed shots that I thought looked cool at the time in my minds eye :)

Oh and amongst all these cars, there was also my own! My Integra Type R, which at that point I had owned for a couple of months if that, this was pretty much before any of my blog posts on the car, so shows it as it was when I bought it.

All in all it was an awesome show that year, and a good sign of things to come at the new venue!

Anyway will blog the 2010 JAE soon.... in the meantime feel free to check out the pics at www.danfegentphotography.com

Ken Block does it again...

Ok so I'm back from JAE 2010, finished editing my pics and they are now up on the website... will post up a proper blog on the event some time this week :-)

In the meantime, its time for Gymkhana 3 part 2!

After the pretty awful part 1 of Gymkhana 3, which to me was basically a big advert for sponsors...

We have now not been disappointed by the release of Gymkhana 3 part 2 :D

YAY!!!

Especially impressive in 1080p!

So yeah this is all over the internet right now, glad to see they can still make an amazing driving video!

Enjoy :D

JDM Allstars 2009 @ Wembley

I absolutely loved finding Fraser Gordons work yesterday on Vimeo, so much so that I had a need today to find another equally good drifting video!

This one a lot of people may be familiar with already, as it was on the blog page of Driftworks, however I felt a need to blog it as it is one of those drifting videos I just keep going back to.

For me what makes this video exciting is the onboard footage from a lead vehicle ahead of the competing drivers. As well as the great choice of music throughout.

No way is it better than Fraser Gordons work though, its just different and brilliant in its own way!

Anyway on with the video...

Make sure to check it out direct on youtube to watch it in full 720p.

Also out of respect to these fantastic film makers, here is the info provided on the youtube listing.

Trackday Films proudly Presents:

The biggest, loudest closest drift event in Europe returns on exceptional form with one of the best show-drift tracks designed. With 70mph entries, huge sweeping corners, jumps (yes - jumps), and walls to scrape - this was always going to be a lot of fun.

In the end, it turned into one of the best top 32's ever seen, and the standard of driving was gobsmacking. The event was comparable in atmosphere and skill to the RedBull world championship finals with Formula D last year - a testament to how hard JDM have worked on this event, and also how much the skill level has improved yet again within Europe.

Thanks to everyone for the really kind comments!

The tracklistings are as follows:

Al Clark Drift intro (not available, sorry)
Lee Major & A Clay - DJ Means Dangerous Jag
Dizzee Rascal - Bonkers (Doorly Remix)
Chic - Goodtimes (Jaguar Skills Rusko Refix)
Lethel Bizzle - Pow TC - Where's My Money (Caspa Remix) High Rankin - No Money For Guns (Jaguar Skills VIP)
Al Clark 'Piano Song' (not available).

Another thing I like about that video as I mentioned above, so with the help of the track listing on youtube, I found the Jaguar Skills mix that contains pretty much all those tracks :D

Enjoy!

That should satisfy my drifting vid needs for today :)

Time to talk about JAE 2008...

Ok so this weekend is JAE 2010 at Wickstead Park, but as mentioned in my previous blog post, this is one of most epic annual UK Jap car shows on the show calendar.

A place where you can chill out in hopefully sunshine... and chat about the things you love with like minded people... bliss!

It is a static car show, held over 3 days and incorporates all models of Japanese vehicles, from old to new ones.

By this point I was really starting to get serious about my photography, I had done a few shows previous to this, got loads of pictures, put them up on the various owners clubs forums only to find that people loved them :) was nice to know my work was actually being enjoyed by people and more importantly the owners of the cars whom I was taking pictures of! To me it made it all worth while :D

So with that in my mind, I went out to JAE to get as many pictures I could to share around the net once the show was over, some of my favourites from that years show are in this post.

Some people travel from afar to attend this huge show.

I still wasn't quite up to the standard I wanted  to be yet with my photos, but these still went down really well around the forums in 2008. Made me look forward to the next JAE even more.

I shall leave you with my personal favourite shot from that years JAE.

Skylines... god damnit I love them :D

I took a lot more pictures at JAE 2008, if you wish to have a good look through them, then follow the following link to my Flickr set.  My JAE 2008 Flickr set.
